Having a vision is the first step to a successful outcome, yet all too often vision hasn’t been carefully considered, negotiated nor communicated. When done correctly, questions of organizational structure, investment, priorities, etc. are easily answered and mutually understood.
I guide organizations through the process of defining their vision and strategy as well as actually moving down the road they have chosen. Slide decks on a shelf in the cloud are not the answer. Instead, I guide the leadership team to use consistent vocabulary, hash out differences that are fundamental, agree on how they do (and don’t) plan to achieve their vision, and openly address risks — and how to mitigate them. And I won’t let you forget the key component of communication (inside, outside, formal, informal, today, tomorrow). Watch what happens when each member of your leadership team shares ownership of the same vision and strategy, and employees of all ranks understand where they are headed, make micro decisions consistent with the strategy, and begin to row in the same direction. It is motivating and powerful.
